Station Use / Make A Reservation
Sagehen Creek Field Station supports use for research, university instruction, and public service. All use of the station and the surrounding Sagehen Experimental Forest must be registered and approved through the UC Natural Reserve System’s Reserve Application Management System (RAMS).
1. Create a Project
You must create a project before scheduling a visit.
In your application, you will:
- Indicate your project type (e.g., research, university class, public service)
- Describe what you plan to do, why you’re doing it, and how you’ll do it
- Add names of your team members
- Upload all required permits (if applicable)
2. Schedule a Visit
Each visit must be scheduled under a specific project. During this step, you’ll enter visit details and request amenities such as lodging, lab space, vehicles, meeting rooms, or staff support. Requested amenities are linked to your visit and help determine your reservation rate based on your institutional affiliation (e.g., University of California or non-UC).
In this step, you will:
- Read and sign all required waivers and the NRS Code of Conduct
- Match the visit type to the project type
- Enter visit details, including dates, times, and participants
3. Await Approval
Your visit request will be reviewed by the Sagehen Station Manager.
You’ll receive an email confirmation once your visit is approved.
If you don’t receive confirmation, follow up to verify that your request was successfully submitted.
Additional Requirements
Before arriving:
- Review the Visitor Information Guide
- All visitors must attend an orientation with the Station Manager upon arrival
- Researchers must:
- Submit project metadata via RAMS
- Credit “UC Berkeley – Sagehen Creek Field Station” in any resulting publications
Contribute to Science
All visitors are encouraged to use tools like the iNaturalist app, Merlin Bird ID, and eBird during their visit to help document the rich biodiversity of the Sagehen Basin and contribute to long-term ecological monitoring through casual observations.
